LEADERSHIP + CHANGE

D

Innovative, international, disruptive, digital: Do you want to get your business fit for the future? Develop and implement a fitting strategy, structure and culture with the right people?

As an expert in change, leadership and executive coaching, I provide companies with fresh perspectives that they can use to ask themselves questions about the future, from which they can learn, and with which they can grow. In small and medium-sized as well as large companies, across all sectors in Hamburg, New York or Singapore.

WORK

Strategy, purpose, leadership, structure, culture and context – in successful companies, these dimensions are intertwined. How does one achieve this? By awakening a pioneering spirit. Through impetus from customers, other companies and experts – but also through feedback from your own company. In this way you get insights for your own change and create your own path, as a company or as a person.

What is important to me? Keeping the big picture in mind and making it possible to achieve this in a way that is respectful and open to creative solutions. In the process, I use a wide spectrum of methods and I know when they work (and when not): vision and strategy development, design thinking, dynamic facilitation, change of perspective, learning journeys, etc.

ABOUT ME

Agility, courage, innovation, co-creation, self-organization, discussion, trust... To shape all this in companies and in human beings, and in doing so to add value to what already exists in the form of potential – this is what I can do, what I love to do and what motivates me. I also like to bring together people with different perspectives: experts, entrepreneurs, decision-makers, curious people, critics – my motto is “be daring and different!”

I like new stimuli – this is not only central to my work, but also makes me happy in my private life. New ideas can come from many areas – from my family, from friends, in small galleries or at concerts, in making music, in New York (where I love to be), in eastern Westphalia (where I come from) or taking a walk along the Elbe in Hamburg (where I live).

And these are the hard facts:

  • CHANGE

Agile development in IT: “Do the right things – don’t do things right.”

“Too many projects, challenging day-to-day business, international, digital – we are working more and more but achieving less and less!” The IT department of an international group was in a dead-end-street: It required all their energy to handle their everyday projects. There was no time for the important strategic decisions they needed to make to improve the situation. The question was: When and how do you start with making a big change?

My answer was: immediately, step by step. The strategic issues were addressed and not postponed. The aim of the change process was to realign the department while its engines were still running – and make it agile. Agility here meant to initiate self-responsible pioneering projects, to get inspiration from agile working methods from other corporations and departments, to experiment and to learn.

All the managers worked together to develop a strategic change road map; they set up a cross-hierarchical steering team and conducted a big departmental workshop. In the process, we made a point of looking appreciatively at what had taken place before and what contribution everyone had made. There was thus no “either-or”, but rather “both-and.”

  • LEADERSHIP

Strategic reorientation of leadership culture within the corporation: “Proactively shaping change with a new management culture.”

A large corporation strives to strategically reposition its management team for the future. Why? A visit to Silicon Valley showed the board how leadership culture could have a positive effect on the success of the company.

How was this achieved? Cross-hierarchical, interdisciplinary teams on three continents worked on their concept of leadership culture: How do we make decisions, manage, collaborate, etc.? In the process (“Leadership 2020”), which was facilitated by an interdisciplinary advisory team, the board was given a maximum of creative freedom, yet they worked together intensively: virtually and face-to-face.

Then the creative juices flowed: Topics like swarm intelligence, garage principle, decision-making, etc. came up. A variety of measures were implemented. In the meantime, individual departments within the company were working not only self-organized and independently but also together on the practical subsequent steps – and joined top management in keeping their eye on the big picture.

  • COACHING

Executive coaching: “A leader forges her own (!) path.”

“Completely overwhelmed, burnt out, without perspective.” This is what this manager felt when we started with coaching. Why was that? She did not act according to her own standards, but those of others; she was no longer in touch with her own gut feeling; she spent her energy on meeting the expectations of others (project partner, board, customers, …).

We embarked on this journey together: What values are important to her? What would she create in the company if she had the courage and the inclination to do so? And who told her that she could not do so? The answer was: nobody, just her own inner beliefs.

That was her own impetus to change, following the motto “If you are going to be limited, let it be by others and not yourself!” Today she is part of the executive management team. She is right up there with them, she is empowered – and she is shaping change in her company with valuable and valued impetus. And who knows where she will go from there!
